Absconding
When an employee stops showing up to work without notice or approval and cannot be reached.
Definition
Absconding refers to an employee abandoning their job without informing the employer, submitting a resignation, or completing an exit process — often becoming unreachable in the process. It's treated differently from a normal resignation because there's no notice period served.
Why It Matters
HR teams need a documented absconding policy to handle final settlement, recovery of company property, and compliance correctly when this happens.
